Broken Bag Beta: Onan Ganjang Style

As we expunge the remnants of laughter over my clever parallel between Korean Pop Star Psy’s now-infamous: Gagnam Style steel your abdomen for more chuckles as we rewind the clock! Pictured below is myself, Ben, and Paul all at Ben’s house in Kenya during 5th grade. We are probably watching the Simpsons in this photo.

Ben is my latest and greatest Broken Bag Beta tester all the way out in Montana! I sent Ben my first roast of the Sumatra Onan Ganjang Cultivar to see what he thought of it. As always, the important (aka the tester) remarks are in bold. Ben is a self-described casual drinker and works at Richey Schools as a teacher (of maths I believe). Using a 1 heaping tablespoon of coffee to 6 oz H20 recipe he brewed this Sumatra in the French Press.

He notes that: “Good bold flavor to start. Smelled great and has a smooth finish. As it cooled,  a “lemony” flavor stood out with got very strong towards the end of the cup. The last third of the cup was very acidic and overly fruity.” Ben goes on to summarize the coffee as, “bold, smooth, & relaxing.

On the intensity/ subjectivity scale Ben has given the following scores:

Fragrance/ Aroma: 9/9

Flavor: 8/8

Acidity: 8/7

Mouthfeel: 9/9

Finish: 8/9

Ben also suggests that you drink it earlier rather than later—so I am assuming the roast blooms around day 3.

Thanks for the feedback Ben! You can find the Sumatra Onan Ganjang here.
