NY coffee!

I just got back from a whirlwind trip to the Apple and managed to grab a few espressos whilst I was there. I’ll quickly dissect what I saw by rating the espresso, talking about the cafe, describing the barista(s) and saying the thing that caught my eye.

La Colombe: good espresso. Orange citrus, super bittersweet chocolate, long aftertaste. Super minimal cafe—no menu. Indifferent baristas. Cold brew bottles.

Joe: meh espresso. Battery acid citrus with no body and no aftertaste. Tiny cafe in grand central. Talkative and informative baristas (there were 3 working). Brewbar did not face the customers so it was three minutes of someone’s back (probably due to spatial constraints)

Grumpy: great espresso. Citrusy with an exciting bittersweet flavor jump at the tail end, and a lingering aftertaste on the tip of the tongue. Small cafe with window bench seating only. Knowledgable and nice barista who made and tasted my espresso before pulling another shot. Coava mkII filters for the pourover.
